A1..
Can I store mail on the local workstation and centrally on
the server at the same time for some clients?
Yes. The product is designed to store mail centrally however you
can still use the mail server to pop to a local client. All data
will then be stored on that local machine.
A2.
How
do I access Shared Address Books when I am remote?
Shared address books cannot be accessed if you are offline from the
server. A copy of the email addresses can be added to your personal
address book which in turn will be available if you are working
offline.

A3.
Why
is our ISP blacklisting our IP address?
Sometimes the server acts too aggressively when compared to the
activities of normal servers. You simply need to contact your ISP
and inform them that you are popping the mail server.

A4.
What is the best way to backup the software?
The
data can be backed up using any standard backup routine however the
fastest method would be for it to be copied to another folder. This
way the service would be down for only a short time before back
commences and restoring can be done by simply placing the directory
back in its original place.

A5.
Can
I run this as a service?
By
default no, however, if you run the add-on Server Service Pack (SSP)
this will enable you to put this as a service on any
Window-based machine.
A6.

Can
I access this via the web?
No.
No web browser interface is available however if you use Thinc-Server
Enterprise, a thin client real-time product is available which is
non-browser based.
A7.
How
do I set up email clients automatically when logging in?
There is no automated scripting for email clients however the
primary send and receive information is set at the server level not
at the client level, therefore those do not have to be set up. Only
usernames and privileges need to be setup when accessing via
centrally stored data.
A8.
Can
I have some clients on Outlook and some clients using Thinc-Mail?
Yes
you can use any email client to send and receive mail HOWEVER you
can only centrally store your data is using Thinc-Mail. You must pop
an SMTP if you are using any third party email client.

A9.
Can I store all of my email locally and not on the server?
Yes. Using normal POP and SMTP all mail will be delivered to the
local machine.

A10.
Can
I have local Address Books as well as Shared Common Address Books?
Yes. Personal address book can be stored locally BUT it must be
accessible via the network to allow the server to capture it.

A11.
What is the easiest way to set up email scanners for viruses?
By
installing any third party virus scanner on the same machine as
Thinc-Server all incoming and outgoing mail will be scanned. It is
still recommended that a second email scanner be set up on the
individual machines as an added precaution providing additional
security and peace of mind.

A12.
Can
I block spam at the server?
Yes. Any third party anti-spamming software can be loaded to run
provided it views ports.

A13.
What is better to set up – MX records or POP?
We
recommend POP and SMTP from your mail server by default and do not
recommend your using MX records unless you are experienced and
understand completely the ramifications of setting these up. It is
not recommended for small companies who do not have the staff to
manage or maintain these records.

A14.
Can
I automate email going into Thinc-Store?
No. By default, you must physically drag all of the email into the
‘store box’ that you wish to archive. If you wish to automate this
process you would require that you purchase Thinc-Store Enterprise.

A15.
Why
do all email when deleted go into the Users Delete Folder?
This is an Administrative security setting. When a user permanently
deletes any of their email they are removed from the trash of the
user and get placed in the second trash found in the primary
Administrators account. This means that they can be stored or
recovered if required.
A16.
Is
all activity logged on this server so that we can create an accurate
audit trail?
Yes. All incoming and outgoing mail is logged and can be viewed by
the Administrator at any time.

A17.
Why
does the dial up keep turning off after a set time?
This is normally found in a setting on the modem itself that the
idle time has been set for a predetermined amount. Go into the modem
settings and change the ‘disconnect if idle’ option to the maximum
amount.
A18.
Our
network traffic seems slow. Is there a way to throttle calling
email?
No. By default this product simply tries to access the mail server
or the internet as quickly and efficiently as possible. If
excessive downloads or internet is occurring then the entire network
will slow down as this is a shared link.
A19.
Can
I use a relay server to send mail, but receive from this server?
Yes. You can separate all outgoing and incoming mail via different
paths.
